FOB Rapid Test

A fecal occult blood test (FOBT) checks for hidden blood in your stool. It's a non-invasive screening test that can help detect colorectal cancer early.

How it works

  • The test detects the presence of human hemoglobin (hHb) in the stool
  • If hHb is present, it binds to anti-hHb conjugates
  • The immunocomplex is captured by a reagent, forming a colored line on the test cassette
  • The color intensity of the test line indicates the concentration of blood in the sample

When to use it

  • FOB rapid tests are often used in routine physical exams and hospital testing
  • They can also be used to screen for colorectal cancer or other gastrointestinal bleeding

What it can detect

  • Bleeding caused by polyps, hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, ulcers, and colorectal cancer

What to consider

  • A positive FOBT result doesn't always mean you have cancer
  • Some medications can cause gastrointestinal irritation and bleeding
  • You should avoid collecting a sample during or shortly after your period
