FOB Rapid Test
FOB Rapid Test
A fecal occult blood test (FOBT) checks for hidden blood in your stool. It's a non-invasive screening test that can help detect colorectal cancer early.
How it works
- The test detects the presence of human hemoglobin (hHb) in the stool
- If hHb is present, it binds to anti-hHb conjugates
- The immunocomplex is captured by a reagent, forming a colored line on the test cassette
- The color intensity of the test line indicates the concentration of blood in the sample
When to use it
- FOB rapid tests are often used in routine physical exams and hospital testing
- They can also be used to screen for colorectal cancer or other gastrointestinal bleeding
What it can detect
- Bleeding caused by polyps, hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, ulcers, and colorectal cancer
What to consider
- A positive FOBT result doesn't always mean you have cancer
- Some medications can cause gastrointestinal irritation and bleeding
- You should avoid collecting a sample during or shortly after your period
